Just like top-tier golfers, we can harness key behaviors that fuel safety and performance
David Silva is a retired Naval Officer turned safety consultant who brings a calm, mission-focused mindset to the world of risk and leadership. Drawing from nearly three decades in the Navy, he now helps organizations navigate complexity with the same discipline and clarity used to guide high-stakes operations at sea. At SafeStart, David blends sharp analysis with a people-first approach; believing that strong relationships and shared awareness are the true foundations of a resilient safety culture. His work centers on helping leaders move beyond compliance and into meaningful, sustainable performance. Now serving on the executive committee for the ASSP Hawaii Chapter, David is also a sought-after speaker known for making safety relatable, practical, and even a little fun. Inspired by the Hawaiian value of kuleana (shared responsibility), David approaches safety as something we all own together. When he’s not working with organizations, you’ll likely find him enjoying time with his wife and two sons or walking the golf course, chasing a better score and a good day outdoors.
